Gladwin County Sex Offender Registry Search

The Michigan Public Sex Offender Registry search portal is the best tool for finding registered sex offenders in Gladwin County. The search is free and runs on a live database. You can search by name, address, zip code, or by selecting Gladwin County from the county filter. The registry reflects changes as registrants report them, so results are generally current. Registry profiles show the person's name, photo, home and secondary addresses, vehicle information, tier level, and the offense type that triggered registration. The PSOR also lets you search by address if you want to see which registrants live within a certain distance of a particular location.

You must do this in person, not by phone or mail.

The initial registration fee is $50. Annual renewals cost $50 each year. There is a $550 lifetime cap on total fees. Long-term registrants who have paid the maximum no longer owe the annual fee but must still appear on their required verification schedule. Tier I registrants verify once a year, Tier II every six months, and Tier III every 90 days.

Note: Registrants who travel out of Michigan for more than seven days must notify the sheriff's office and provide information about where they will be during the absence.

Sex Offender Law in Gladwin County

Michigan's Sex Offenders Registration Act, starting at MCL 28.721, governs all sex offender registration in the state. Under MCL 28.723, registration is required for any person convicted of a qualifying sex offense. The obligation begins before or at the time of release from custody, or within three business days of moving into Michigan or changing a home address within the state. People who move into Gladwin County from anywhere else in Michigan or from out of state must register at the Gladwin County Sheriff's Office within three business days.

MCL 28.725 spells out what information must be kept current. This includes all home and secondary addresses, the registrant's employer location, school enrollment status, vehicle descriptions, internet identifiers, and physical characteristics like hair color and any tattoos or scars. All of this information must be kept accurate at all times, and changes must be reported in person within three business days. The statute does not provide flexibility on the timeline. If you change your address on a Monday, you have until Thursday to report it at the sheriff's office.

Penalties for failure to comply are found at MCL 28.729. A first offense for failing to register or update carries up to four years in prison and a $5,000 fine. A second offense raises the penalty to up to seven years and $10,000. Third and later offenses bring up to ten years and a $10,000 fine. These are felony charges, and they are prosecuted in Gladwin County's circuit court.

Tier Levels and Reporting Schedules

Under MCL 28.725a, every registered sex offender in Michigan is classified into one of three tiers based on the offense of conviction. Tier I covers less severe crimes, including fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct under MCL 750.520e. Tier I registrants verify their information once a year and remain on the registry for 15 years. Tier II applies to crimes of moderate severity, such as second-degree criminal sexual conduct under MCL 750.520c. These registrants verify every six months and stay listed for 25 years.

Tier III is for the most serious offenses. First-degree criminal sexual conduct under MCL 750.520b, which involves penetration along with aggravating circumstances such as a young victim or use of a dangerous weapon, places a person in Tier III. Tier III registrants must verify every 90 days and are listed on the public registry for life. The Michigan State Police sets tier levels when a person first registers. The Gladwin County Sheriff's Office has no authority to change tier classification. Questions about tier status must go to the MSP SOR Unit in Lansing at (517) 241-1806 or psors@michigan.gov.
